The new college season is about to begin in Aberystwyth, and the students are returning to their studies as the day shorten slowly for the winter. At the School of Art, Cai fears that he won’t have the money to continue his research into the reclusive artist, Aeres Vaughan… but an unexpected message one day causes him to rethink.

With Ffion, a biology student at the university, he realizes that a dark secret is hidden behind the elegant suspended silent pictures on the walls of Plas Helygog – a secret that leads them far from the college by the sea to a thrilling mystery.
